What It Takes
Age
Minimum age of 18 (membership may be accepted for a 16 year old provided his immediate family is a member of the department and they sign a statement relieving us of any responsibility other than a regular fireman.
Meeting Attendance
Regular meeting attendance is expected.
Training Attendance
Trainings are held the last Thursday and the first Saturday of the month. These trainings are for your safety so attendance should be regular.
Fire Calls
We are a department that relies on you to run calls. We understand that life is busy, but we do ask that if you are available to go to the call to help your neighbors.
Firefighter Training Academy
- On-boarding courses must be completed promptly upon joining.
- 16 hour firefighter, EVOC, Bloodborne pathogen.
- CPR course must be completed within 12 months of joining.
- Wildland fire course within 3 years
- 64 hour fire fighter course within 3 years.

Our firefighters are the neighbors who respond to structure fires, vehicle fires, and rescue calls — day or night. No experience is required to start; HVFD provides the training and certification support you need. If you're willing to train, show up for calls, and work as part of a team, this is where most volunteers begin.

Driver Operator
Driver/Operators are responsible for getting our trucks and equipment safely to the scene and operating the pumps and apparatus once we're there. This role usually comes after some time as a firefighter, once you're familiar with our trucks and equipment, and typically requires additional certification.
Auxiliary

Auxiliary
Auxiliary members support the department without responding to emergency calls themselves — helping with fundraising, community events, administrative work, and keeping our equipment and station running smoothly. This is a great fit if you want to support HVFD but can't commit to emergency response training or on-call availability.
